Islam is the religion of at least one-sixth of the world's population, perhaps more. The topics are arranged alphabetically, for quick and easy reference and cross-references are given throughout. To its followers, Islam is a 'din', a complete way of life, embracing worship, morals and doctrine; it is a culture, a civilization, a world-view. Richard Tame is also the author of Approaches to Islam and India and Pakistan in the Twentieth Century.
Richard Tames read history at Cambridge and took his Master's degree at the University of London, where he worked for over 15 years and was three times a Teacher Fellow. He now lectures for the London programmes of the American University and is a London Tourist Board registered 'Blue Badge' Guide. He is the author of American Walks in London, Bloomsbury Past, Soho Past and The City of London Past.
